UA&P Survival Tips

As you start your UA&P experience, I have just ended mine #BringOnTheTears #NiagraFalls. You are about the enter a great university that will teach you one thing: To be more human, more passionately human. If you’re still considering of going to UA&P or have gotten your Freshstart invite, I know what you feel: nervous on the new territory you are about to embark on. What to do? What not to do? While you might have these things listed in your handbook/planner, here are a couple of tips for you!
I am no perfect UA&P student but here are a list of things you should and shouldn’t do while a dragon!
 .
Do not get caught disobeying the dresscode, Trust me, I have. The guards are really strict about this. Gte yourself (especially the girls) some pants and long dresses, yes, having a dresscode means you get to shop. So SHOP. MORE…dresscode-worthy clothes.
.
CITATIONS IN PAPERS. MLA, APA, ETC. They matter.
.
Do go shopping for lengthy dresses and skirts. You’ll be surprised on how much class it adds to your look.
.
Do bring an extension chord for meetings in prom a and or b. Charge station, anyone?
.
Do join a theatre org! UA&P has very strong theatre groups you can join in even if you don’t have experience!
.
Don’t hoard the tissue in the CR. It’s for everyone in campus and not to mention it’s unfriendly to the environment.
.
Do be early in school if you want to get a locker slot
Do come in class with an open mind. So you can absorb more knowledge, silly! Your teachers know what they’re taking about, if you question their theories, go ahead. This is the best way to learn from them. They want to hear your side of the story so you can exchange ideas and theories
.
Don’t be rude to other people’s beliefs. It’s just rude.
Do buy index cards and get 1×1 pictures of yourself every first week of the sem. Trust me, all teachers will ask for one
.
Don’t keep on pressing the call button on the faculty intercom. Once or twice is enough
.
Do try Philly’s Pearl Harbor. Simply must-do for any UA&P student
.
Do not get on the ACB elevator and go down on the 2nd floor. Exceptions for disabilities and very, very, very high heels you can no longer walk in
.
Do buy good, comfy heels. Kitten heels are acceptable and cute
.
Do feed the cats in the caff. Or adopt them. One cat to go with that rice meal? Yes, it has been done
.
Don’t buy an obscene t-shirt. I’m talking to you, unclassy statement tees
.
Do watch a game for the President’s cup. We’re a small school, we don’t have UAAP or NCAA but this makes it more meaningful to watch the games. You actually know the guy shooting the ball and genuinely cheer them on and congratulate them for their win in class the next day!
.
Do: ROC initiation, it’s tradition.
.
Don’t be rude to the manning and manangs and kuyas and ates. Honestly, who likes rude people? You aint no Kanye.
.
Do not forget to bring a jacket, it gets cold with good ‘ol Frost in the classrooms
.
Do buy a UA&P jacket from the Merchandising Committee!!! Must have! Imagine wearing it 10 years from now! #Vintage
.
Don’t forget to get your readings! Or borrow them from older people so you don’t have to buy! Friends, this is pretty basic but I know it’s hard to follow. You can also borrow from your friends… But not while in class
.
Do not forget to join and org, this is college friends, not martial law. Join something and be part of it!
.
Do take your picture in the Prom a or Prom b street at least once! It’s a signature thing to do! I took a gazillion #ootds there
.
Do: Iced Tea at Php20 from Doña Awing. Worth it. You’ll drown in iced tea
.
Don’t have a meeting in Starbucks Hanston (any cafe for that matter) and have 10 group mates in one table with only 1 person buying. Honestly. No. It’s just wrong and rude and impolite and unclassy. Yes, it bothers the human race (and SB Pearl regulars such as myself) if a table of 10 occupies a whole chunk of a cafe (esp. if you’re SUPER NOISY) and you only have one drink stapling you there, stay inside the hangout places in school if you want to look cool.
.
Do: pace your purchases as a group. #StyleStyleDin
.
Do: Be part of UA&P Voice Out for updates on campus life
.
Do not forget highlighters. You need them with the readings coming your way. They really help in reading through pages of Armenio and The First Filipino
.
Don’t be shy to ask your seniors for any help or advice, you can even tweet me! @littlemsteapat
.
Do go to mentoring!
.
Do: Join the events in school! Honestly, not joining them do not make you cool. Apathy is not cool in college, especially in a liberal arts school, we like feeling, and smiling, and being part of something
.
Do not act like you’re too cool for school. This goes even if you’re not going to UA&P. it’s just.. annoying. Apathy is lame
.
Do try out for JMC while you’re freshman. You don’t have any other chances except that
.
Do take that leap of faith! Again: college! It’s when you’re old enough to make your own mistakes and learn from them!
.
Do print in Serenity or JCN if the library is full of crammers… If all else fails, bring a printer to school. It has been done and the connivence it has provided. The. Convenience. It. Has. Provided.
.
Do: Yellow pad and exam notebooks are available in the bookstore, do not underestimate the space of that thing
.
Do: know where the university bookstore is. We’re a small enough school, shame on you if you don’t know where things are located.
Don’t look for love. Look for friends
.
Do not swim in the pond, honestly.
.
Do not complain about PE or the bleep test, all the more take it during your 3rd or 4th year. Imagine switching clothes from Corpo to gym clothes, eww.
.
Do know that walls can speak. Especially CR walls. So do not gossip there…do not gossip at all.
.
Don’s avoid the hard professors. Yes, the exist in all schools and taking their subjects add up to the whole experience! Most of these teachers are AMAZING, BRILLIANT, AND GENIUSES in their fields, it pays to pay attention to them. THESE ARE THE TEACHERS THAT GIVE YOU A “BAD TIME” BUT YOU END UPW ITH A GOOD STORY/MORAL VALUE AFTER. Besides, you can brag that you survived the class when you pass!
.
Do not take nice teachers for granted. Don’t. It’s just wrong and utilitarian (more of this term in Philo1-Ethics)
.
Do: HAVE. FUN.
.
UA&P is now your home as much as it has/is mine, take care of it and just breathe-in everything, time flies so fast in UA&P and you’ll regret the chances you didn’t take in the end.
.
Much love and MUCH MORE UNITAS,
LMTP.
